A number of Celtic fans have been discussing the reports emerging from the Daily Record this week which have suggested that the Hoops are keen to bring Emilio Izaguirre back to Parkhead one year after he initially left the Hoops.

Izaguirre spent seven seasons with the Bhoys, winning six league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups, and making over 250 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He endured a slightly frustrating end to his first Celtic spell however, with Kieran Tierney’s emergence restricting the Honduras international to 29 Scottish Premiership appearances across his final two campaigns. And following the end of the 2016/17 season, Izaguirre left for Saudi Arabia and Al-Fayha.

However, the 32-year-old is now a free agent, and the Daily Record reports that he is set to make an emotional return to Celtic ahead of the coming campaign.

While Izaguirre is undoubtedly a popular figure amongst the Celtic fans and there is clearly a lot of respect for the left-back’s first spell, it seems safe to say that many fans on social media appear to either be confused or disappointed by the reports.

There are some who believe that he would be an ideal signing to provide cover for Tierney once again, but there are plenty who have criticised the scouts – and their complaints are understandable given that, if Rodgers signs Izaguirre this summer, the three deals done so far will all be for players who have previously played for the club.

There is also a sense that it may be a backward step to bring Izaguirre back at this stage of his career. It certainly does appear that many supporters may need to be convinced that a move makes sense as things stand.

Here is what some of the Celtic fans make of the reports…
