One-time Celtic defender Marvin Compper is back in the news.
The former Germany international has joined Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow.
Compper, who signed for Celtic in January of 2018 for £1 million, has become Markus Gisdo’s assistant manager in the Russian capital.
The 36-year-old retired from football in 2020, not long after his horrendous Celtic career ended.
He left Parkhead 18 months after joining, having only managed one senior appearance for the Hoops in time.
Compper was originally signed by Brendan Rodgers but Neil Lennon didn’t find much use for him at Parkhead either, it has to be said.
Here’s how some Celtic fans reacted to his post in Russia:
Legend?
Despite some taking of the mickey by Celtic fans, Compper was anything but a legend in Glasgow.
But he did receive a winner’s medal for their Premiership title in the summer of 2019, and danced around the pitch at Parkhead in spite of the fact he didn’t play a single game.
He was a figure of fun at Celtic, but beneath the banter there were injuries which didn’t help his cause one bit.
But at 36, this is a young age to become assistant manager at Lokomotiv Moscow.
It’s going to open a lot of doors and it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear a lot of positive things regarding Compper down the years.
