Former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney made his debut for Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday night, returning from a lengthy injury lay-off.

However, it appears he hasn’t forgotten his roots, with a message on his boots providing a tribute to both Celtic and the pub team he supports in his home town.

The Scotland international had ‘BHOYS’ on his left boot, with ‘BULLFROG’ on his right boot.

Tierney spoke about his passion for the amateur outfit in an interview with The Daily Record last year, revealing they’ve been a major part of his upbringing.

As quoted by the paper, he said of the team in Muirhouse: “The Bullfrog has been part of my life since I was a kid.

“My dad would walk us down and we’d watch their games. And I’d do what kids do, I’d nick out on to the pitch at half-time with a ball for a few crosses and finishes.

“It has always been my local but now it’s my mates who are playing and people from our area go and watch.”

His support for boyhood club Celtic, known as the Bhoys, is also well noted and it seems that the player was eager to pay tribute to both of his sentimental favourites on his big unveiling at the Emirates.

It was a positive night for the 21-year-old, playing 77 minutes of a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the League Cup.

He’ll now be hoping to get more action under his belt and make the left-back slot his own in the coming weeks and months.

For some Celtic fans, the message was unappreciated.

With some supporters taking to social media to suggest the player is not a true supporter of the club, or that he’s trying too hard in the wake of his big money exit, it appears his move to Arsenal is still a point of discomfort for a section of the Celtic Park faithful.
