Celtic kicked off their Scottish Premiership title defence with an emphatic win at Parkhead on Saturday,
A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Jonny Hayes’ performance during the Hoops’ Scottish Premiership season opener with Livingston, which saw Brendan Rodgers’ men run out 3-1 winners at Parkhead.
After successfully negotiating their way through the early rounds of the Champions League preliminary stages, the Bhoys would have been hoping to keep building their momentum against newly-promoted Livi, who were being managed in a competitive game for the first time by Kenny Miller.
However, it was an unhappy return to Parkhead for the former Old Firm striker as goals from Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham saw Celtic take a 3-0 lead inside 50 minutes. Livi would make the scoreline most respectable with the final kick of the contest, but the Hoops are certainly off and running.
While a number of players impressed in the win – some may have perhaps feared that the game could have become something of a potential banana skin after their Champions League progress – it appears that Hayes still has a lot to do before he wins over the Celtic supporters.
The £1.3 million signing – fee reported by BBC Sport – struggled to force his way into the side in the months following his move before his campaign was ended early after he suffered a broken leg on Boxing Day.
Hayes set up Rogic’s opener on Saturday, but many of the supporters were still not impressed and suggested that it seems unlikely that he will go on to be deemed a good signing for the Bhoys. There was some praise for his display, but the majority did not seem happy with the Republic of Ireland international.
