A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the reports emerging from the Daily Record which have suggested that Liam Henderson could now be a free agent as Bari were expelled from Serie B ahead of the new season.

The Record reports that last season’s promotion contenders are on the brink of financial implosion and are likely to find themselves in the amateur leagues next term, and with that, a number of player contracts are likely to be torn up.

It may be a major blow for Henderson, who left Celtic for Italy during the January transfer window having struggled to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Parkhead.

The 22-year-old had proved to be a superb signing for Bari and the Record reports that he is attracting the attention of both Fiorentina and Parma, so it would appear that the situation may not have that great an impact on him.

The reports have prompted a lot of debate on social media amongst Celtic fans. There was a time when Henderson appeared to be destined to become a future star for the Hoops and many would have been forgiven for feeling disappointed when he left in January.

There were plenty of discussions regarding whether Celtic should look at Henderson’s potential exit from Bari as an opportunity to get him back to the Scottish Premiership. And while some supporters are not keen on the idea due to the depth that the Hoops already boast in the middle of the park, there were many who feel that trying to sign him again should be on the agenda given how well he has done in Italy.
