A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to express their concern after it was confirmed that John McGinn has joined Aston Villa ahead of the final hours of the English transfer window.

McGinn was one of the most highly sought-after players in the Scottish Premiership this summer. BBC Sport reports that Celtic were interested in the 23-year-old throughout the window, but Brendan Rodgers will now have to deal with the fact that he has missed out on the former Hibernian ace.

Instead, the Scotland international has moved to the Championship to join the Villans, with BBC Sport reporting that he has signed a four-year deal with Steve Bruce’s side – who began their season with a victory away at Hull City on Monday night.

In response to the news, a number of Hoops supporters have expressed their disappointment on social media. There is a sense amongst some that the Bhoys have really missed out despite Rodgers’ side already boasting the best midfield in the division.

There is also a major feeling of concern. Rodgers clearly wanted to get McGinn in through the Parkhead door this summer, so some fear that not getting the deal done could lead to some tension developing between the board and the manager.

There is even one Celtic supporter who has suggested that he could see Rodgers deciding to walk away from the club at the end of the season if he feels that the board are not giving him the support he deserves after two superb years with the Hoops.
