The Celtic striker could be out for a number of weeks.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon provided an injury update on striker Vakoun Bayo in the wake of last night’s win over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, BBC Scotland report.

The win at Celtic Park has ensured the Hoops stay top of the table, but Lennon’s team are in the midst of a brutal schedule and will likely need to use much of their squad depth over the coming weeks and months.

Although Odsonne Edouard remains fit, healthy and in form, there is legitimate concern about what happens if he drops out with injury or suspension.

Bad news then that Bayo may need surgery to sort out an ongoing issue.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Lennon explained: “Bayo’s seeing a specialist. It’s not good.

“So if he does need surgery we are looking at maybe six weeks. Leigh [Griffiths] is back training tomorrow but we’ll have to wait and see his condition.”

Griffiths’ return will be welcome news to fans, but there’s no guarantee on when he’ll back to match fitness, nor whether he’s ready to come back into the team and play well.

It’s no surprise that Celtic fans are not quite comfortable with the situation, feeling that the club have been left a bit short in the forward areas heading into a crucial period of the season.
