Some Carlisle United fans are expressing anger over Steven Pressley’s treatment of the club’s on-loan Newcastle United striker Elias Sorensen.

Sorensen scored prolifically for Newcastle’s Under-23s last season and was seen as a coup for Carlisle when he arrived at the League Two side in the summer transfer window, on deal until the end of the campaign.

But the Danish youngster has only played 153 minutes of league football for the Cumbrians, and appeared just twice in the competition since 7 September.

His lack of action prompted Neil Redfearn, the Newcastle U23s coach, to state this week that Sorensen’s spell at Brunton Park will be reviewed ahead of the January transfer window – the earliest point at which his deal can be officially terminated.

Pressley, the Carlisle manager, later acknowledged the Magpies’ concerns, claiming that the ‘development and progress of our own team’ must be his primary focus.
