James Chester is reportedly keen to stay at Aston Villa after the board’s decision on Steve Bruce’s future.

A number of Aston Villa fans have been commenting on the reports emerging from the Express and Star which have suggested that James Chester is keen to remain with the Villans this summer despite heavy links with Stoke City.
It had appeared that Villa would have to sell a number of their key players during this window following their play-off final defeat last season – and Chester looked to be one of those who may be moved on.
The Express and Star adds that the new majority shareholders’ decision to keep Steve Bruce at the helm played a part in convincing Chester to stay at Villa Park. He could still be sold due to the club’s Financial Fair Play concerns, but it definitely appears much more likely that he will be sticking around this summer – with Bruce reportedly keen to get a deal done to bring Robert Huth in.

Unsurprisingly, the news has gone down incredibly well amongst the Villa fans. For a long time in this window, it had appeared that the supporters were going to have to watch a number of their star players leave, so Chester’s reported desire to stay is a massive boost.
The fans are clearly not getting carried away at this stage, but there is plenty of optimism that Chester could still be at the club when the transfer window closes next month after the latest reports.
