A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to express their disbelief after reports emerged from Tuttomercatoweb earlier this week suggesting that the Villans had made an incredibly ambitious bid for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina.

Steve Bruce and the Villa supporters have had to endure a turbulent summer. At one stage, it appeared that the club may have been on the verge of financial meltdown.

The Championship side now have new majority shareholders, and it appears that they have some serious plans for Villa before the window shuts, including targeting Colombia international Mina.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Villa have been in contact with Barca regarding a stunning £17.8 million bid which includes an £8.9 million initial fee with the rest being paid in add-ons.

Unsurprisingly, few of the Aston Villa fans commenting on the reports on social media are willing to believe that their club have actually made a bid for the 23-year-old centre-back.

It had appeared that Villa would have to sell the majority of their key players not too long ago, and while they may no longer find themselves in such financial difficulty, it is difficult to imagine that they have made a move for Mina or have any chance of signing him this summer if they have indeed made a bid.

It certainly does appear highly unlikely at this stage, and it is safe to say that a very small minority of the fans are giving the rumours the time of day at this stage.
