Some Aston Villa fans have been reacting after it was reported by The Athletic and The Telegraph that Unai Emery is the main candidate for the Newcastle job and Eddie Howe is the backup option.
Why do Villa fans care about this? Well, the Midlands club have been linked with Paulo Fonseca recently who was seemingly set for the job at St James’ Park at one point.
Indeed, it was widely reported that Fonseca was going to take over at Newcastle, but for one reason or another, it seems as though that now isn’t going to happen.
At least that’s what Villa fans are thinking.
Indeed, the fanbase were quick to notice that Fonseca is no longer being mentioned as a potential Steve Bruce replacement at Newcastle, and with Emery and Howe seemingly the Magpies’ top choices, Villa should have a much clearer path to bringing in the former Roma boss should they wish to.
Of course, whether or not Fonseca goes to Villa remains to be seen, but Dean Smith’s job doesn’t seem too safe right now.
