It’s almost time for Mikel Arteta to make a big decision at Arsenal.

Arteta incurred the wrath of Gunners fans in October after omitting Mesut Ozil from his Europa League and Premier League squad.

Arsenal’s domestic form nosedived in the aftermath of that decision and now sit 15th in the Premier League – and were bottom of the table in terms of chances created.

Given that Ozil is a playmaker, the subsequent statistics certainly seemed to indicate that Arteta’s side were badly missing the enigmatic Germany international, a World Cup winner in 2014.

And according to The Telegraph, fans of the North London club weren’t the only ones who were upset by the Spanish coach’s decision.

The report claims that quite a few senior members of Arteta’s squad still support Ozil and would love to see him recalled into the squad come January, six months before his contract expires at the Emirates Stadium.

This is a difficult decision for the 38-year-old coach.

Bringing him back would be an admission of failure to some extent and you could argue that it wouldn’t be a good look for the former Manchester City assistant.

Then again, sticking to his guns could be considered stubborness in light of the fact Arsenal clearly need a creative midfielder playing for them, so it’ll be fascinating to see what Arteta does.
