It looks like Lucas Torreira might be coming back to Arsenal in January.

The Uruguay international joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan toward the end of the summer transfer window.

But it hasn’t worked out for the Arsenal midfielder, who has clocked only 182 minutes of league football, spread across five appearances.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Atleti are sending the 24-year-old back to North London in something that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta failed to confirm or deny on Tuesday.

This news comes on the back of Granit Xhaka becoming public enemy number one again at the Emirates Stadium after his stupid red card in the 1-0 defeat by Burnley on Sunday night.

And here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to possibly getting the South American – who plays in the same position as Xhaka – back for the second half of the campaign.

Torreira, who earns £75,000 per week, is really quite untested under Arteta.

The former Sampdoria star wasn’t fit when football resumed in June and then struggled to make the first XI on a regular basis, before being loaned out.

Unai Emery got a great tune out of Torreira at one point – if only for one season – and it’ll be interesting to see if Arteta feels he can replicate it.
