It’s probably fair to say that Arsenal’s failure to sign Houssem Aouar this past summer has proven pretty costly.

The Gunners huffed and puffed for months but ultimately failed to tempt Lyon into selling their star midfielder.

And Arsenal, who had two bids rejected, are paying for the penalty for that failure right now, to this day.

Because simply put, the North Londoners just can’t create goalscoring chances.

Mikel Arteta’s side are bottom of the table in terms of chances created, culminating in them sitting 15th in the real Premier League table.

These are very worrying times for the North London club, who lost 1-0 at home to Burnley on Sunday night.

With Mesut Ozil exiled until January at the earliest, it’s difficult to see where the creative spark is going to come from for Arsenal.

Aouar has had an up-and-down season with Lyon so far as well, and has been an unused subtitution on a few occasions for discipline reasons.

On Monday, the 23-year-old send a cryptic message on Twitter, simply posting an emoji of a volcano.

And here’s how Arsenal fans are responding:

There’s an argument to be made that Aouar might turn up his nose at a move to Arsenal now.

It remains to be seen how or why Arteta and Edu would fare any better this time around, after spending £45 million on Thomas Partey.

Aouar is reported to have a wanted a move to Arsenal in September and October, but a lot can happen in three months and now he probably wouldn’t want anything to do with them.
