Some Arsenal fans on Twitter still believe that Houssem Aouar will wind up in North London.
The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the Lyon attacker during the final few months of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are reported to have two bids knocked back by the Ligue 1 outfit – the largest of which was £35 million, £10 million shy of what the French club reportedly wanted for the 22-year-old.
As it were, Aouar stayed with Lyon but Arsenal still enjoyed a successful end to a successful window, bringing in Thomas Partey.
The France international has posted a message on Twitter, jumping on the bandwagon of a social media craze which involves two pictures – one of how his career started, one of how it’s panning out.
And Arsenal fans were quick to respond with photoshopped images of him wearing their kit.
It’s possible that Mikel Arteta’s side will still have a good season without Aouar.
After all, the Londoners, who won the FA Cup last season, are fourth in the Premier League table after winning three of their first four matches – and that’s before Partey is thrown into the mix.
Aouar is clearly a fine player but, who knows, it might turn out that they don’t need him, especially if they finish in the same position that they occupy now.
