Arsenal fans are very concerned with the news that Matthew Ryan is still not back in training.
Mikel Arteta told the club’s official website at his press conference today that Ryan is now a major doubt for the weekend, with Alex Runarsson potentially having to be called upon to step in.
Runarsson has not convinced on his previous showings in an Arsenal shirt.
And Gunners supporters are concerned about a potential defeat, if they are forced to start with the Icelandic international in goal.
Arsenal have been very unfortunate with the timing of Ryan’s injury, as they brought him in to provide more solid cover to Bernd Leno than Runarsson has.
Ryan was expected to be an able deputy for Leno, but with the German suspended there are now real concerns that he won’t make it back in time to feature.
Runarsson is yet to make a Premier League start for the Gunners, and all eyes will be on him if he features against Villa.
It is unlikely to be an easy test for the 25-year-old, either.
Villa have shown great attacking quality this season, with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Ross Barkley and Jack Grealish all playing well, meaning whoever starts in goal for Arsenal is likely to be tested regularly.
