Arsenal’s Calum Chambers isn’t even a right-back but he’s just been compared to one of the very best by Jamie Carragher, live on Sky Sports.
The former Southampton centre-back, a £16 million signing seven years ago, lined up in his alternative position on Sunday as the Gunners drew 3-3 away to West Ham United.
Arsenal were three goals behind after half-an-hour but Mikel Arteta’s side staged a fine comeback to bring a point back to the North of the capital.
Their best player on the day was arguably Chambers, who defended diligently and swung in a number of fine crosses at the other end.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher claimed that the 26-year-old reminded him of a certain Brazilian icon Cafu.
And here’s how some rival fans reacted to the comments on Twitter:
With two World Cups, Chambers has a ways to go before he emulates the Brazil legend.
That being said, this is a position that he seems to be growing into.
Arsenal fans will remember Chambers being torn apart during a defeat at Swansea City back under Arsene Wenger and many will have hoped to never see him in that position again.
But with Arteta boasting quite a few central defenders, it’s right-back or nothing for Chambers right now and he’s definitely getting better.
