Arsenal came up against a very familiar face in the Europa League last night.
The Gunners put one foot in the quarter-final of the competition by beating Olympiacos 3-1 in Greece as Mikel Arteta’s side secured a commanding lead in the tie.
One subplot to this tie was the fact that Arsenal would be facing Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who was released by the North Londoners as recently as January.
Sokratis, who spent two-and-a-half years at the Emirates Stadium, joined the Greek giants and was named in the first XI last night.
But he was unable to prevent his old side from scoring three away goals through Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Magalhaes and Mohamed Elneny.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to their former player’s performance last night:
Arsenal could and definitely should reach the last eight of the competition now.
Three away goals is a huge advantage for the Premier League outfit, but the goal that they conceded was an error and it’ll give Olympiacos some heart going into the return leg next week.
The truth is, Arsenal do make quite a lot of mistakes and the Greek outfit will be hoping to exploit that fact next time around.
