Arsenal fans have been reacting to Mesut Ozil’s first goal for Fenerbahce – and first for anyone after more than 18 months.

What’s the story?

The former Germany international scored his side’s second goal as Fenerbahce inched past Adana Demirspor in their opening league game of the season.

Ozil has endured a hellish past 18 months or so. He was frozen out at Arsenal by Mikel Arteta last season until his move to Turkey during the January transfer window.

However, the club continued to pay the star until the end of his contract, which expired at the end of June.

His time with Fenerbahce has been shattered by injury. Until yesterday, the attacking midfielder had failed to score in 11 appearances for the Super Lig outfit.

Of all the players to have arrived and departed the Emirates Stadium over the years, few have suffered like the former Germany international.
