Arsenal and Liverpool’s rivalry isn’t always talked about, but it is still one of the Premier League’s most anticipated games every season. The Gunners have been second best more often than not recently, but they have given the Reds a run for their money ever since Mikel Arteta took over.

The North Londoners beat Liverpool in the league last season and followed that up with another win in the Community Shield. The Reds, however, schooled Arteta’s men earlier this week, but Jurgen Klopp still seems to be a fan of the Gunners boss’ work at the Emirates.

Ahead of tonight’s game at Anfield, Klopp explained his admiration for Arsenal. The Liverpool boss claimed that he loves the Gunners’ squad and the job that Arteta has been doing behind the scenes.

He wrote in Liverpool’s matchday programme: “Tonight will be hard – super hard. Again, without sounding like an Arsenal fan, I really love their squad and I love what they do at the moment.”

“But I love us more. I love what we do. I love what we stand for and how we approach our work. I love the humility of our approach and our commitment to be better in each given moment.”

Arsenal have clearly progressed under Arteta. The Gunners went from being in the bottom half of the league table to winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield, which shows that they are on the right path.

However, the game on Monday showed the difference in quality between the two sides. Arsenal still have a long way to go before they can go toe to toe with the Premier League champions, but there are a lot of positives already.

Klopp’s comments about Arsenal, predictably, was very well received by the Gunners supporters. Many took to Twitter to respond to the Liverpool boss.
