It looks like Arsenal target Jerome Boateng will definitely be leaving Bayern Munich in the summer.
According to Kicker in Germany, Boateng, who is linked with a move to the Gunners, won’t be given an extension on the contract that expires next year.
And rather than lose him on a free 12 months from now, Bayern are keen to sell him.
Foot Mercato reported last month that the 31-year-old was on Arsenal’s radar and here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to the prospect of him going to the Emirates Stadium when the transfer window opens.
Do Arsenal need Boateng?
Well, they certainly need some centre-backs; not because Mikel Arteta is short on options, but because he’s short on good options.
Arteta has Shkodran Mustafi, William Saliba, David Luiz, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and loanee Pablo Mari.
Apart from Saliba and potentially Mari, who had impressed during his short stint in North London, there isn’t a lot of quality there.
And although Boateng was a quality centre-back, he turns 32 in a few months and therefore Arsenal should probably be looking at younger players.
