There was a glimmer of excitement last night when Aouar was omitted from his team’s first XI for the visit to Bordeaux, amid growing speculation about a switch to North London, but then a sense of deflation when his name was spotted among the substitutes.
Aouar, who hit the post late on, replaced Moussa Dembele after 59 minutes and here’s how Arsenal fans reacted to his cameo in the 0-0 draw:
Arsenal fans clearly like him, as does Arteta, but this doesn’t mean much.
According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 outfit want £54 million for their star midfielder and if the North Londoners struggle to meet Thomas Partey’s £45 million valuation, which they have done up to now, then logically it suggests signing Aouar could be even tougher.
It seems likely that the Emirates Stadium outfit will have to offload a few players in permanent deals, with the money up front, if they’re going to afford this star.
