Matteo Guendouzi picked up a first victory since leaving Arsenal on loan a little earlier this summer.
For the second season running, the French midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements by Mikel Arteta in North London.
The 22-year-old has been loaned to Ligue 1 side Marseille and earlier this week he helped his new club secure a 2-1 win over Saint Etienne.
It might’ve only been a friendly, but Guendouzi, who joined Arsenal from Lorient three years ago, seems proud nonetheless.
On Thursday, he tweeted out ‘Première victoire’ – which means ‘first victory’ in English – and here’s how some Gunners fans responded to their boy.
Absence
Absence makes the heart grow fonder and that’s the case with Arsenal fans and Guendouzi.
This time last year, the Emirates Stadium faithful were firmly behind Arteta in his decision to exile the controversial midfielder.
But with Arteta’s popularity dwindling over the past 12 months, Guendouzi’s has risen among many Arsenal fans and quite a lot of them would love to see him have a second chance at the Emirates.
That, however, seems unlikely because although he is only on loan, Marseille do have the option to sign him outright next summer and given his talent, it’s very probable that he’ll excel back in France and wind up staying for the long term.
