Long-serving Manchester United ace Antonio Valencia could leave Old Trafford with a move to Premier League rivals West Ham on the cards.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits that reported West Ham target Antonio Valencia is facing an uncertain future at Manchester United, speaking to the Evening Standard.
Valencia is celebrating his 10th year as a United player, having moved to Old Trafford from Wigan Athletic in 2009. But, at the age of 33, it seems that his time in the North West is coming to an end.
Valencia’s contract is due to expire in the summer and, while United have an option to extend his deal for a further 12 months, the deadline is tonight.
The Sun reports that West Ham would love to bring the Ecuadorian international to the London Stadium at the end of the season and Solskjaer’s comments should give them hope that a deal could be done.
“At the moment I’m not sure if Man United and Antonio will agree on the next year. It depends if he gets back on the pitch,” said the affable Norwegian.
“He’s the captain, a great servant. Hopefully, I can get him back on the pitch and he can show what he can do.”
Valencia has made just one appearance since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at the helm in December and, while he has struggled with a calf injury, it seems unlikely that he’d be playing even if he was fully fit. Ashley Young has been in fine form in the last two months while Diego Dalot looks set to be the club’s right-back for years to come.
