Stefan Scepovic scored just six times for Celtic – though at least that’s more than he’s managed in two seasons with Getafe.

Celtic's Stefan Scepovic celebrates scoring their third goal

While Celtic have often used the transfer market effectively to replace their departing prized assets with under-the-radar gems, you have to question a number of the strikers making the move to Glasgow in recent seasons.

If Teemu Pukki, Amido Balde, Carlton Cole and Colin Kazim-Richards were bad, Stefan Scepovic re-defined the word ‘flop’. Arguably the worst signing of Ronny Deila’s reign at Celtic Park, predecessor Brendan Rodgers wasted little time releasing the 27-year-old in the summer.

That Scepovic arrived for £2.2 million and was sold two years later for half the price says it all, as reported by The Telegraph. Though the Serbian’s CV should perhaps have set alarm bells ringing a lot sooner.

Yes, Scepovic arrived at Celtic on the back of the most prolific season of his career, netting 23 league goals for Sporting Gijon, but the fact that the Spanish second division outfit were his tenth club in seven years hardly suggested that he was worth the risk.

And, after netting just six goals in 26 games in Scotland before being farmed out on loan to Getafe the following summer, it became quickly apparent that Celtic had bought yet another dud. Though at least they can take solace in knowing that Scepovic is hardly ripping it up in Spain this season.

Despite a frankly miserable tally of three goals in 18 La Liga games, contributing heavily to Getafe’s relegation last season, the Madrid outfit oddly decided to sign Scepovic on a permanent deal in the summer.

And he has hardly repaid his £1 million transfer fee, as reported by the Daily Mail, by notching a grand total of one goal in 20 games in the Spanish second tier. Just for the record, he’s without a goal, or indeed a start, since October.

Suddenly, Scepovic makes even Balde look prolific.
