Southampton should consider bringing back Jay Rodriguez from West Bromwich Albion.
Southampton confirmed West Bromwich Albion’s relegation earlier this month with a win over Swansea City.
The Saints securing survival now gives them an opportunity to raid the Baggies and pile on the misery.
Last summer Southampton sold Jay Rodriguez to West Brom for £12 million, a deal which suited all parties.
Rodriguez was battling back from a serious knee injury sustained back in 2014 and he was in need of a fresh start and change of scenery.
Despite relegation, Rodriguez has benefitted from an individual standpoint at West Brom.
He played in 37 out of 38 Premier League games, starting 31 of them.
Goals were harder to come by, with Rodriguez scoring seven in the league, but he added four more in cup competitions to finish ahead of Salomon Rondon as the club’s top scorer.
The pick was his winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which gave West Brom a brief glimpse of survival.
Now Southampton should consider giving Rodriguez another shot and trying to tempt him back.
His seven league goals matched their top scorer, Charlie Austin, and there is a sense Rodriguez has just flashed what he is capable of this season.
Prior to his injury Rodriguez netted 17 goals for the Saints in 2013/14 and was called into the England squad.
Having nursed him through his injury and made the tough decision to let him leave last summer, Southampton should take stock and consider bringing him back this summer in the hope he is ready to re-discover his best form.
