Manchester City were dumped out of the Champions League last night, as AS Monaco secured a 3-1 win to take them through to the quarter-finals on away goals.

The night before Leicester City booked their place in the final eight and the Premier League champions are the last English team standing in the competition.

The hero on the night was Kasper Schmeichel, who of course has Manchester City links.

He saved a penalty in the game and made several other good saves as Leicester, who are in a relegation battle, moved into the next round.

So should City consider bringing him back?

Pep Guardiola must now know his experiment with Claudio Bravo has not worked. Schmeichel however is more than good enough for the Premier League and has proven in the past he can play with the ball at his feet.

The 30-year-old was at City for seven years as a junior before Notts County signed him, for a fee reported by the Coventry Telegraph to be in the region of £1.5 million, 2009. Now he is establishing himself as one of Europe’s best.

Manchester City would be wise to bring him back to the Etihad this summer.
