Newcastle United have allowed some fine players to move on in recent times, and fans may prefer that some of them were still at St James’ Park.
Kevin Mbabu has become a first-team ace at Wolfsburg having barely been given a chance at Newcastle, whilst Valentino Lazaro recently scored a goal of the year contender for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Salomon Rondon is another player that fans may love to have back at the club, as is Jetro Willems – but Adam Armstrong sticks out as a player Newcastle should be looking to bring back to Tyneside.
Armstrong, 23, was born in Newcastle and began his career with the Magpies, emerging as a young prodigy before starring on loan at Coventry City.
In 2018, Newcastle decided to sell Armstrong to Blackburn Rovers for just £1.75million, and it’s now looking like a rather poor decision.
Armstrong is in blistering form this season, smashing 11 goals in just 10 Championship games, with Rovers now allegedly seeking around £30million for the attacker.
Armstrong is quick, direct and a fine finisher, whilst his ability to play up front or on either flank should be appealing to Steve Bruce.
With question marks over Miguel Almiron’s future, Newcastle should look to bring back Armstrong and utilise him alongside Allan Saint-Maximin in support of Callum Wilson.
Few would blame Armstrong if he felt he had unfinished business at Newcastle. He grew up supporting the club, and was sold after making just 21 appearances for the Magpies, meaning he didn’t really get the chance to develop fully at St James’ Park.
He has now been away and proved himself as one of the Championship’s top attackers, so he should now be near the top of Newcastle’s wish list – if the money is available for him.
