Back in October, eyebrows were raised when Sheffield United handed Liverpool £23.5 million for their academy graduate Rhian Brewster.

The England Under-21 international hadn’t made a single Premier League appearance at the time of his exit from Anfield, making the fee a strange one.

However, there’s no denying he is a prodigy, so Chris Wilder took the gamble – sadly, it has truly backfired.

Here we are, in March, and Brewster is still searching for his first Premier League goal.

He hasn’t been in the greatest environment to get it, in truth, as the Blades prop up the Premier League having won just four of their 29 games.

Brewster may still have a bright future, but in terms of Liverpool, the club’s brilliant Sporting Director Michael Edwards appears to have done it again.

He made Bournemouth look silly when they paid £19 million for Dominic Solanke in January 2019, after he’d bagged just one Premier League goal for the Reds.

Now, we’re feeling a strong sense of déjà vu with the sale of Brewster, for a sum which was well above what he realistically should’ve been worth.

To rake in £42.5 million for two strikers who were never really pivotal to Jürgen Klopp is excellent work from Edwards.

The transfer specialist just can’t seem to stop delivering the goods for Liverpool.
