Former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has given his thoughts to Metro on which players from each team would make a combined XI, ahead of the North London derby on Sunday.

The ex-England man came through the ranks at White Hart Lane, going on to captain the Lilywhites, before dramatically burning his bridges with a controversial free transfer to the Gunners in 2001.

Nevertheless, Campbell played more than double the number of Tottenham matches than he did for Arsenal, and despite his allegiance leaning very much towards Wenger’s side since his retirement, even the 42-year-old couldn’t .

Campbell selected four Spurs players in the five defensive positions in the team, plumping for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, fullbacks Danny Rose and Kyle Walker and centre back Jan Vertonghen from the league’s meanest defence. Only Laurent Koscielny – an injury doubt for Sunday – made the cut for the Gunners.

In midfield, things are marginally more even, with Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez selected alongside Tottenham stars Victor Wanyama, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.

Unsurprisingly, London derby goal machine Harry Kane is selected up top.

That leave Tottenham with eight players selected, and Arsenal just three.

Both sets of supporters would arguably take issue with Campbell’s omission of key men, with Mesut Ozil missing for Arsenal and Belgian duo Mousa Dembele and Toby Alderweireld absent for Spurs.

But the chances of appeasing the two fanbases at once is nigh impossible, especially when Campbell is involved.
