Sol Campbell was not left overly impressed by Darwin Nunez, as he put in a sloppy display for Uruguay, who were held to a 0-0 draw against South Korea in their World Cup opener.

The Liverpool striker, operating in a wider role was far from the encouraging best he has shown in recent weeks for his club.

In the first half in particular, the 23-year-old missed a gilt-edged chance in the box that was perhaps one of his nation’s best opportunities to take the lead.

On the ball as well, Nunez was extremely sloppy, with his passes going wayward on plenty of occasions.

While the former Benfica forward often had the beating of his man, his final ball flattered to deceive on a vast number of occasions.

Campbell was not a fan of Nunez’s performance

Speaking as a member of Sport 18’s panel of pundits, Sol Campbell touched on how Darwin Nunez failed to deliver against South Korea.

“[Darwin] Nunez, couple of really heavy touches in the box”, he opened.

Campbell continued, “I think the word people are always saying about him [Darwin Nunez] is raw talent. He has a lot to learn.”

“He still has to learn what to do in the final moment; timing, touch, which are things that come with experience.”

In all fairness, Campbell’s comments are constructive

While several fans and pundits alike have verged on disrespectful when analysing Darwin Nunez’s game, Sol Campbell is not one of them.

The Arsenal legend is spot on about the fact that while the Uruguayan, who has been compared to Luis Suarez by Thierry Henry (CBS Sports) showed positive signs, he failed to capitalise on those moments repeatedly.

Technically, the Reds frontman’s flaws certainly came to light.

While his final ball was simply poor on multiple instances, despite him getting into promising positions.

Darwin Nunez should take Sol Campbell’s comments about his showing against South Korea in his stride and vow to improve certain facets of his game moving forward.
