You probably won’t find a bigger villain among Tottenham Hotspur fans than Sol Campbell.
The Spurs academy graduate turned his back on the club to join North London rivals Arsenal on a free transfer back in 2001.
Not only that, but the Tottenham supporters had to watch him win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during his five-year spell under Arsene Wenger.
Ian Holloway said something that most Lilywhites fans hated a couple of weeks ago by suggesting on talkSPORT that Campbell is ‘perfect’ for the vacant manager’s position on the white half of the North London divide.
It’s been over two months since Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho and chairman Daniel Levy has still not hired anybody, after talks broke down with Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca.
Asked on talkSPORT today whether he’d be interested, Campbell said: “I don’t know. Who knows?”
Clue
The 46-year-old has been out of management for a year after leaving Southend United last June, after their relegation from League Two.
But the fact that the Arsenal legend didn’t deny an interest in the Tottenham job is perhaps a clue that he would take on the role.
Levy is already fiercely unpopular with Spurs fans and this appointment wouldn’t do much for that, which means this is never in a million years going to materialise.
But it’s still interesting that Campbell himself – who has also managed Macclesfield Town – would be up for the challenge.
