The Leeds centre-back has won the accolade ahead of the duo.

Sol Bamba has been voted Leeds United’s player of the month for August, according to the club’s official website.

Indeed, the Ivorian was voted United’s best performer in the Championship by supporters and the Leeds site have referenced his impressive clearance statistics in comparison to the rest of the division.

Rightly so, with the 30-year-old winning more of them than any other player so far this term.

After being notified of the stats, Bamba told the LUFC site: “I didn’t know these stats. But it’s always good to hear. That’s what I try to do everywhere I go. If you give everything, the fans respond to that.”

Runners up

And the Leeds site also revealed that 21-year-old Charlie Taylor came second in the voting, with striker and summer signing Chris Wood finishing third.

United have had a number of strong performers so far this season but the fans appear to have got this one spot on. Taylor has been superb at left-back – one of the best in the Championship on form.

Wood, meanwhile, has looked strong in the final third and, were it not for his late winner at Derby County, Leeds would still be winless. Bamba, though, has led from the back and quite often driven his side forward. A worthy winner?
