Sol Bamba is tipping Leeds United to win promotion.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa watches on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on January 11, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Former Leeds United defender Sol Bamba has told Sky Sports that he believes his old side will finally win Premier League promotion this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side put allegations of spying to one side last Friday to beat Derby County to stay top of the Championship.

Leeds have a four-point cushion in the automatic promotion places now and it would be a shock if the Elland Road side didn’t end their 15-year exile from England’s top flight from here.

The win over Derby brought to an end a run of three successive defeats, and Bamba, who left the Whites for Cardiff City in 2016, predicts that United’s capacity to bounce back quickly is what will lead them back to the promised land come May.

He told Sky Sports when asked if the Yorkshire giants will be coming up: “Yes I think so, after the Christmas period is massive in the Championship we all know that and I think the fact they have managed to stay top and are still doing it, I think this season is the one,” continued the defender.

“I think where they’ve done good is that after losing games they carried on as before.

“After one or two losses they have crumbled [in the past] but this time they have stayed strong, so hopefully this season is the one.”

Sol Bamba (R) of Leeds United gestures to referee Tim Robinson during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers on October 29, 2015 in Leeds, United Kingdom.

Bamba is correct. Bielsa has the unique ability to ensure that defeats are isolated incidents for the most part.

It’s January and Leeds haven’t lost more than two Championship games on the spin, which has only happened once this season.

In fact, they won seven in a row after losing 4-1 at West Brom in November and that should illustrate that the Argentine has taught the players to put big disappointments behind them.
