‘Soft spot for Villa’: Some West Ham fans react to Aston Villa’s actions yesterday

West Ham United supporters appreciated the helping hand they got from Aston Villa yesterday as they edged closer to Europa League football.

If West Ham can secure a point against Southampton, in front of their supporters, on Sunday then they will be playing Europa League football next season.

But that fight for Europe took its twists and turns yesterday, with West Ham leaving it late to beat West Brom and Villa also coming from behind to secure all three points against Spurs.

That Villa win, added with West Ham’s fightback at the Hawthorns, has now guaranteed David Moyes’ side a seventh-placed finish (Europa League Conference) and put them in a commanding position for a top-six finish come the final game of the campaign.

And some West Ham supporters were grateful for getting that much-needed nudge from elsewhere, as it came in the form of another team in Claret & Blue.

The Hammers faithful were loving Villa’s performance at Spurs, which now puts Ryan Mason’s side in danger of missing out on Europe altogether heading into the final game of the season this Sunday.

Whilst Chelsea are going to finish the season as the top dogs in London, before a ball was kicked this term, not many expected those from the East to be second on the list – but they are and will be.

After surviving relegation during the final few weeks of last season, it has been some turnaround by the Irons, who have been transformed during this campaign.
