Nigel de Jong told beIN SPORTS (13/02/21 at 7:30 pm) that Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez had a Phil Jones moment during his side’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

The former Premier League midfielder claims that ‘social media will pick up’ the Tottenham defender falling flat on his face as he attempted to stop Ilkay Gundogan from scoring.

Sanchez was all over the place when Ederson’s ball over the top resulted in the Tottenham man scrambling back, only to be turned inside out by Gundogan, who slotted home.

De Jong hailed Manchester City’s ‘man in form’ and mocked the manner in which Sanchez defended the goal.

“I think it’s going to be memes soon on the internet,” said de Jong. “I think social media will pick this up.

“That’s a Phil Jones kind of dive from Sanchez. But Gundogan is the man in form with the way he is playing.”

It has been an unforgettable week for Sanchez because he was turned inside and out as Spurs conceded five in midweek against Everton.

And now he couldn’t do the basics against the Premier League leaders, who have been dispatching all before them this season.

It won’t be a surprise if he is out of the team for Tottenham’s Europa League tie on Thursday and their Premier League clash away at West Ham this Sunday.
