Gary Lineker wrote on his Instagram story that it’s ‘so weird’ for him to be at Anfield for a European night without any Liverpool fans present.
Liverpool host Real Madrid in a heavyweight Champions League showdown tonight, with the home team looking to overturn a 3-1 first-leg defeat in Spain.
In usual circumstances, the Madrid players would get a pretty hostile welcome from the thousands of Liverpool fans waiting outside the Anfield gates.
And then they would be welcomed into the stadium where many magical nights have occurred for those in Red.
The most memorable one, of course, is that famous comeback against Barcelona, but without the supporters now, it does decrease Liverpool chances of re-writing history once more.
Nonetheless, with Lineker set to host Liverpool’s Champions League showdown against Madrid for BT Sport tonight live from the stadium after restrictions were lifted, this is what he had to say on his Instagram story:
‘To be at at Anfield for a European night is so weird without the fans’.

Even though Liverpool are chasing the game, it does suit them more because they now know that they need to be on the front foot.
It will be interesting to see how attacking Jurgen Klopp is from the get-go because that would be significant.
If all four of his attacking players start then that would be a serious sign of intent from the German.
