Pep Guardiola has jokingly admitted that he was not happy with Erling Haaland’s performance for Manchester City this weekend after the striker only scored once against Southampton in a 4-0 win.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the City manager teased his new superstar striker following their latest win by saying: “I’m so upset with him he didn’t score three goals, that’s why the petition is to sack him for the Premier League.”
Guardiola added: “It happens [Haaland missing easy chances]. The expectation is so high people expect he’ll score three or four goals every game. In the end he was there to score it. He helped to keep the ball, fight. Erling played really good today too.”
The petition in question Guardiola was referencing was made earlier this week to get Haaland banned by the Football Association based on his incredible performances since joining City, with the attacker already on 20 goals in all competitions in early October.

Whilst Haaland’s form has been other-worldly with numerous records being broken in the process, the attacker seemingly has no intention of slowing up anytime soon, with the striker currently yet to be struck down by any injury problem as Guardiola looks to keep his new talisman as fresh as possible.
Indeed, Haaland is well on course to win the Premier League Golden Boot this season and likely claim the prize with another record under his belt, with Mohamed Salah currently holding the title for most goals scored in a single campaign in a 38-game top-flight English division with 32.
Guardiola’s Haaland joke a reminder that the Premier League is screwed

Haaland has blow every expectation out of the water this season and then some, with the striker continuing to defy every possible question and concern with each passing game. And because of this, the rest of the Premier League might be screwed for a good few years.
After all, Haaland might stay at City for some seasons given his long-term link to the club and his childhood support of the Manchester side, and with the striker slotting into Guardiola’s system with ease, the 22-year-old could be here to stay, much to the dismay of Premier League defences.
