According to the Birmingham Mail and The Telegraph, Arsenal are interested in signing Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

The Gunners are keen to bolster their midfield, and now it looks as though they have their sights set on the Brazilian.

Interestingly, there is one Arsenal legend who is a massive fan of Luiz – Ian Wright.

Indeed the Gunners’ former record goalscorer, claimed that Luiz is ready to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League if he kicks on.

What’s Wright said about Luiz?

Wright gave the midfielder a glowing review after Aston Villa battered the London club 3-0 last season.

“They have got defenders and midfielders who are ready [to go the next level],” Wright said on his podcast.

“Someone like Douglas Luiz he is ready to be one of the best midfield players in the Premier League. He is so underrated, at the minute.”

“They blasted us on Sunday. We had no chance. It was men against boys.”

Ready to step up

Wright says that Luiz is ready to become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and perhaps Arsenal is the best club for him to develop at.

The Gunners are building an incredible core of young players, and at the age of 23, Luiz could be the midfield lynchpin at the heart of this youth revolution.

Luiz does have a long way to go before he’s considered one of the best in England, but a move to Arsenal would certainly provide him a platform to make that next step.
