Gary Neville has claimed that Liverpool’s defence is ’so superior’ to Manchester City’s during Sky Sports’ live coverage of the clash at the Etihad Stadium last night.

Liverpool may have lost 4-0 to City yesterday, but they are still 20 points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

And Neville feels that the major difference between the two sides is their defences.

“I was just thinking watching the game, the difference between the two teams is the back five,” Neville said.

“The Liverpool back five is so superior to City’s back five. City’s midfield is probably slightly better, Liverpool’s attack, but it’s very even.”

Liverpool do have the best defensive record in the Premier League this term, but even they were unable to cope with City’s attack threat yesterday.

Guardiola’s men were in superb form, as they dismantled the newly crowned Premier League champions.

Even after yesterday’s heavy defeat Liverpool have still only conceded 25 goals in the Premier League this season, which shows just how reliable their backline has been.

City, meanwhile, have let in 32 goals – and have clearly missed Vincent Kompany, who departed last summer, and Aymeric Laporte, who was absent for a large chunk of the campaign with injury.
