Conor Coady praised Diogo Jota for being ‘so, so intelligent’ during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (10/04/22 at 7:45 pm).

The Wolves captain played alongside Jota during his time in the Midlands, as he shared that the ‘biggest thing’ about the 25-year-old is his mentality, his willingness to win and score all the time.

When Jota first signed for the Reds during the summer of 2020, it raised eyebrows and critical questions.

But when Jota was wheeling away by scoring on his home debut against Arsenal, it soon started to change the tune of a few people.

Fast forward to today, no-one can question the impact the Portuguese star has made on Merseyside, but Coady never had any doubt, as he reacted to his goal yesterday.

“Amazing, amazing,” said Coady. “I had a lot of people saying when he first went there ‘what’s he going to be like?’.

“The biggest thing I can say about him is his mentality. He just wants to win. Wants to score goals. He is so, so intelligent with his movement and he never switches off. You see with this goal, the play before is fantastic.

“But he makes the first run, now he is offside, then he makes sure he gets himself back onside. And just stands still. It’s intelligence. And then the ball goes underneath Ederson.

“As I said, his movement to go in. Not getting the ball, then come out and switch on again was absolutely fantastic. It was a great goal.”

This Man City-Liverpool rivalry has been dubbed, by some, as the best English football has produced.

Well, whilst no-one can argue about the quality that has been on show by these two, one thing is for sure, it doesn’t have the intense aggression or hatred like other rivalries of the past had.

One of the obvious coming during the Premier League era – Manchester United and Arsenal.

Nonetheless, it’s time for round two between Liverpool and Man City, this time in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday at Wembley.
