Only a few months ago it was reported that Renato Sanches was ‘destined’ to join Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this summer.

Back in March, Calciomercato in Italy claimed that the Portugal international would be joining the Anfield club.

Speculation on that one has gone very cold since but it’ll be interesting to see if Liverpool renew an interest, on the back of his performance in Euro 2020 on Saturday night.

The Lille midfielder, who helped his club to a Ligue 1 title this past season, replaced Bernardo Silva at half time in his country’s 4-2 defeat by Germany last night.

Despite being on the losing side, Sanches impressed in a big way and completed a passing success rate of 88 percent [WhoScored].

Not only that, but the 23-year-old glided around the pitch in a Thiago Alcantara-esque manner, pulling strings in that sense.

Here’s how some neutral fans reacted on Twitter:

Wijnaldum replacement?

It just so happens that Liverpool need a new midfielder.

Klopp has just lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer and although the German manager has a few potential replacements, they aren’t reliable.

Liverpool would be nuts to put their trust in a Naby Keita or an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, due to their inconsistency and awful injury records on Merseyside.

Could a move for Sanches come about again? Well, after all, he is ‘destined’ to play for the Reds.
