Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are reacting to a sad update about Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen, who left Spurs almost two years ago, has been told that he cannot compete in Italian football this season.

The Denmark international suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and has since been fitted with a defibrillator.

Inter Milan have revealed that although the 29-year-old cannot play in Italy for now, he could potentially ‘resume competitive activity‘ abroad.

Here’s how some Tottenham fans reacted to the news on Twitter:

Tragic

Some cynical fans might point to Eriksen’s wealth and suggest that he doesn’t need to play, as far as finances go.

And although that’s certainly true, nobody gets into football for the money.

Right now, Eriksen, who spent six-and-a-half years as a Tottenham player, will want nothing more than to continue his playing career out of love for the sport.

At 29, the Ajax product still has so much more to offer the sport and if he can get clearance to do so, why not?

What happened is a tragedy and although it could’ve been far worse, it would still be very sad if Eriksen has to hang up his boots.

Italian football is off the table for now, but this is a player still in the prime of his career and according to Inter, the chance to play abroad is an option and it’ll be fascinating to see if something comes up in January.
