Kurt Zouma has stated on his Instagram story that it’s ‘so sad’ that his West Ham teammate Angelo Ogbonna has sustained a possible season-ending injury.
The 33-year-old suffered an ACL injury during West Ham’s 3-2 win over Liverpool at the weekend and a recent scan revealed damage to his right knee, as posted by Sky Sports.
This clearly disappointed his defensive partner in crime in Zouma, who simply posted on his IG story:
“So sad for you uncle Ang’,” said Zouma. “But you will stay strong as always.”
The road to recovery now begins for Ogbonna and he will be hoping that it’s not a slow return than what he will be fearing.
It’s a crying shame for the £10 million player (BBC Sport) because he has been outstanding for the high-flying Hammers this season.
Whilst David Moyes still has options to choose from, such as Issa Diop and Craig Dawson, will it be enough to fill the club’s hectic schedule?
If not, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see West Ham dip into the winter transfer market to try and buy a centre-back.
One more injury, or even a knock for a few weeks to one of the CB’s, then the Hammers are scraping the barrel.
If they don’t want to go down that road, then it could open the door for an academy player to try and put their name up in lights, like a Ben Johnson has been doing.
Or, the other option could be to play Declan Rice at the back, if push comes to shove, and in his current form, he would smash that out of the park.
