Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after watching Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah speak to a patient at Alder Hey hospital.

What’s the story?

Well, every year, Liverpool travel to Alder Hey hospital to visit patients around the Christmas period, to bring a bit of festive cheer.

Sadly, the Reds have not been able to do so for the past two years, so they have been forced to resort to video calls.

In Mane and Salah’s case, the pair spoke to a young Liverpool fan from his hospital bed, where he revealed his brother is a Manchester United supporter.

After hearing that, Mane is visibly disappointed, putting his hand over his face before saying: “Ooh, wrong team”.

The £34m man then goes on to ask if the young supporter watched Liverpool’s 5-0 win at Old Trafford, and then asks if the result made his brother sad.

Evidently, Mane took great joy in getting one over on the Red Devils.

Liverpool and Sadio Mane deserve huge credit

Without a doubt, Liverpool are a special club, and heartwarming initiatives like this just reinforce that.

So far this season, the Reds also released a video to lecture supporters on why some chants are offensive, and are always endorsing inclusivity in football.

On and off the pitch, Liverpool are setting the benchmark, and more clubs should start to follow their lead – they’d be silly not to.

You could just tell how excited the video calls made the young children, and it’s fantastic that Liverpool arranged an alternative instead of cancelling the visit altogether.

Across Europe, there are few clubs more switched on at the moment than Liverpool – everyone at Anfield is setting a fine example.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Mane’s dig at Manchester United…
