Aaron Ramsdale might have been dropped to the bench by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, but he has had a productive training camp with England.
The 25-year-old has been Arsenal’s number one for a few years now and it has helped him become a regular member of England’s squad with Gareth Southgate.
But Mikel Arteta has opted to go down the road of David Raya, and despite that call leaving him on the bench, he was still selected for England.
And Aaron Ramsdale is impressing, not just his coaches, but Everton’s own number one, Jordan Pickford, who was lauding him during a training session.
England’s official YouTube account posted footage of their goalkeepers – Aaron Ramsdale, Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone – going through their paces.
Throughout, Arsenal’s signing from Sheffield United was praised for his ‘quick’ foot movement and great decision-making.

Aaron Ramsdale in England training
As Ramsdale was going through his drills, you could hear both Pickford and Sam Johnstone telling him ‘great save’.
Before England’s goalkeeping coach added: “Brilliant work. What a save that is, Aaron. Getting your hands forward.”
Pickford then added as the Arsenal man went through his drills: “Nice feet. Great, Rambo.”
England GK coach then continued: “Good double shift, Rambo. What’s the benefit? You are instantly ready when the nine is in and around the six-yard box. Then your decisions are so quick to go again when he’s not there to go again.”
Pickford then reacted to Ramsdale’s low stop: “Ooh, what a save that is,” with his GK’ing coach adding: “What a decision that was, so quick. Great decision, Aaron.”
What next for Aaron Ramsdale?
It’s pretty obvious that Arteta is now going to run with Raya as his number one, which puts Ramsdale in a spot of bother.
If he wants to earn that golden ticket to Germany for Euro 2024 next summer, then he has to be playing on a regular basis.
It’s bad enough for outfield players to be picked when they have hardly played, but it’s even worse for goalkeepers given the delicate position they play.
