Gary Neville has hit out at Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles for the way he conceded the third goal in the weekend’s Merseyside derby.

Liverpool won the game 3-1, with Divock Origi netting the third, finishing clinically after excellent work from Coutinho to set him up.

Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles found himself stranded after positioning himself poorly, and pundit Gary Neville hit out at his efforts.

He told the Gary Neville podcast: “It is so poor. Thats the goal that takes the game away.

“The goalkeeper is so poor on that goal. He really is. Coutinho’s fantastic, but the goalkeeper there rushing out towards the penalty spot, I’m not sure what he is doing.

“You just cant make mistakes like that at this level.”

Robles entered the season as Everton’s second choice, but stepped in after an injury to Dutch veteran Maarten Stekelenburg.

In recent weeks he has played relatively well, but his display at the weekend’s high profile encounter was certainly a blow to his chances of keeping the number one job long term.

He may still fancy his chances of beating out veteran Stekelenburg if he ends the season well, but manager Ronald Koeman has money to spend, and could well decide to bring in another goalkeeper to compete for the position next campaign.
