Jurgen Klopp has allayed fears over Jordan Henderson‘s injury but admitted the knock he picked up for Liverpool on Wednesday night looked ‘so painful’.
Klopp’s side hammered Ajax 3-0 in Amsterdam to advance into the knockout phase of the Champions League.
But it almost came at a cost when Henderson suffered a suspected knee injury on 70 minutes, leading to his substitution for James Milner.
And despite telling Liverpool’s official website that the midfielder – a £20 million signing in 2011 [Eurosport] – seems to be okay, the Reds boss did have an ‘ouch’ moment when seeing the incident.
He said: “I was worried as well when I saw the situation because it was in front of me, but I think he thought he got knee on knee, so painful. A bruise, probably. Really painful but as far as I know now, nothing else and that should be fine.”
Finally, Liverpool are beginning to get a slice of luck on the injury front.
Had this been a few weeks or months ago, Henderson probably would’ve wound up being ruled out for quite a long time, such was the state of the Reds’ problems – particularly in midfield.
But according to Klopp, this isn’t an issue likely to keep the Liverpool captain out for very long in what is a major boost.
It’s been a very mixed season for the Anfield outfit, with each good result invariably being followed by a shocker.
And hopefully for their sake, the Merseysiders can change the tune this weekend when Leeds United visit in the Premier League.
