Filip Krovinovic has been blown away by Conor Gallagher’s impact at West Bromwich Albion, telling the Birmingham Mail that the Chelsea loanee is a midfielder with ‘so much potential’.
There is a reason why the number of clubs interested in recruiting this England U21 international for the season was stretching into double figures, before the Baggies won the race for one of the most sought-after signatures in the domestic game.
Gallagher is not only the jewel in Chelsea’s diamond-filled academy, he is also now very much proven in the senior game too.
A goal-scoring number eight in the Frank Lampard mould, he scored six times during spells at Swansea City and Charlton in 2018/19 with a step up to the Premier League his reward.
Although Krovinovic will be challenging Gallagher for a place in Slaven Bilic’s starting XI, he only has positive words to say about his new rival.
“English people are unbelievable. Conor is English, he is a very good guy. He has so much potential, he is only 20 years old but he is a very good player,” says Krovinovic, who is also excited to be sharing a dressing room with three-time Premier League winner Branislav Ivanovic.
“(Gallagher) is going to help us a lot this season.”

Gallagher offered a tantalising glimpse at his potential during a Man of the Match performance in the EFL Cup defeat to Brentford last month. But the challenge is whether he can find a place in West Brom’s Premier League XI.
It remains to be seen whether Bilic would be willing to include Gallagher alongside Matheus Pereira, Callum Robinson and Grady Diangana, with the Baggies’ shaky defence already buckling during a testing start to the campaign.
