West Bromwich Albion youngster Callum Morton was a man in demand during the summer before joining Lincoln City on loan, Baggies academy manager Richard Stevens has told the club’s official website.
As Northampton Town fans will tell you, there’s a reason why this diminutive 20-year-old had a multitude of Football League sides vying for his signature.
Morton was nothing short of a revelation during a loan spell at Sixfields in the second half of last season. With eight goals in 12 games, it was the addition of this natural finisher to the squad that fired Northampton to promotion.
He even found the net in the 4-0 League Two play-off final thrashing of Exeter City at Wembley.
So Stevens’ revelation should be no surprise.
“So many clubs wanted Callum Morton this year,” the West Brom academy chief says.

“He played at Northampton last season in a successful, direct style of football and they wanted him again, which would have been easy.
“But going to Lincoln is a different style that gives him another set of experiences where he’s not going to be direct. He’s got to start linking the game up now, which is a bit closer to how the gaffer at West Brom plays.”
The fact West Brom chose a club that plays possession-based football to mirror that of Slaven Bilic suggests they see a future for Morton at the Hawthorns.
Michael Appleton’s Lincoln have won seven of their nine League One games to sit top of the table. However, injuries have restricted Morton to just two appearances so far.
